dragons at shows.............

reiko Jun 23, 2003 10:20 PM

hey all

im in the market for another dragon and i think im looking for a red phase this time, or some sort of red colored dragon. Im going to the san diego show and im not sure which breeders will be there but im hoping to find some that i know and some good healthy dragons. i am wondering, are show prices usually a little lower, the same, or higher then say just buying from a website, also i really would like to buy at the show so i can hand pick a dragon and he will not have to go through shipping. So im just curious, i have never purchased an animal at a show before. Id love to pick up one of Chris Allens reds but i dont have the funds for one of his stunners right now with making some recent investments in the equine area but i really still would love to add a red dragon this season to our beardie family. We have already been looking into what we will call him =] Any input would be greatly appreciated......anyone know anyone with reds that will be there??

Prices at shows are a little higher then normal. Not saying that you won't find a good deal. I'm just giving you my own experiences. Breeders know that people are ther to buy, and buy a lot. Most people who go are looking for the best of the best, and the price follows. As you might know towards the end of the season people who are trying to get rid of some dragons that aren't selling to quickly do cut prices fairly descent. I would not give up on Chris yet, you know, and I know he's got the best, and at times you can find a great prices through him on top notch babies. Even the one's you don't think will turn out great have a chance to be screamers by the time they are adults. Chris's dragons hold some killer genes. Bought one at the end of the season a few years back and it turned out to be one of the biggest, healthiest dragons I got. good luck. Oh also if the show is two days by the second day a lot of people are more interested in listening to your deals, and are in a possition to bargain with you if 40 bucks is going to make him or lose a sale towards the end of the show most do cut prices to try and leave as light as possible. good luck reiko in your search

You generally don't find any bargain colored dragons at the San Diego IRBA, like Matt said......but some of the big breeders are there......SDR, Dragons Den, KWE etc.....some fairly good smaller breeders too. But even if you don't find what you want, it's too fun to look.

What I'm basically saying is that the second day of the show most of the top notch babies have all been grabbed up. At this time you will be able to get nice dragons(not the best colors) but nice and healthy any way. At this time all the big breeders are counting their money hand over fist, and are more likly to give you a better deal. A lot of them travel far distances to these shows, and look foward to leaving them as light as possible. Catch my drift? Even towards the end of the breeding season some of the breeders who post on kingsnake will also drop their prices. the same dragon in June would sell for 150 now they are more inclined to let it go for 75. Understand what I'm saying?
