Any advice on how to start handling... again?

caecilianman02 Aug 11, 2004 02:49 PM

Hi there:

v I have two eastern ribbon snakes that at one time were EXTREMELY TAME! They never tried to escape or bit or musked or anything. However, recently they have started biting, releasing huge amounts of unbearable musk, deficating, spinning and everything. I just walk by the cage and they go crazy. I have had the male for about 5 years, and this began with both at the exact same time about a year ago.

I would just pick them up. It isn't like musk or some bites from Thamnophis are going to kill you. Just handle them for a few minutes each day. If they still remain wild after a while, then perhaps you should consider just having them as display animals instead of animals that you can hold.
