I question. My Cal. King has stopped eating/shedding... again.

EX-731 Aug 11, 2004 03:01 PM

This happened to me sometime last year... maybe more in september... my little guy just stopped eating one day. and he when off his shed too it seemed.

seems he's doing it again. just stopped feeding. he still seems active. he seems alert. I just won't eat.

Last time, after about 3 months i took him to the vet. The did blood work and gave me antibiotics... which i gave him. they then had to force feed him, for a week, and then, after 2 quick sheds he started eating like a hog... and seemed health.

I'm not sure, but i think he's going to put me through it again. I now have 4 more snakes, corns, and they are eating and shedding just fine, but he's lagging behind now... hasn't eaten for about a month and a half now.

What do you think i could be doing wrong? He eats wonderfully when he's not going throught this phase... all my other snakes seem healthy... and all the tank condistions are roughly the same...

I'm at a loss. I'm not really sure what to do... do i keep waiting and offereing food? When do i stop waiting and try to force feed... or take him back to the vet.

am i missing something? Do cal. kings do this reguarily? I'll admit i'm still fairly new at this. He was my first snake, and i've had him about a year and a half now...

If this is normal, i'd like to know, so i won't worry. If not, i'd like to know so i can do something about it.

any help will be greatly appreasited.

Whats the temp in your enclosure?

I'm at work, so i can't say with 100% accuarry, but it's normally in the mid to high 70's. Not to mention it's been pretty hot around here lately.

I got a fairly large under tank heater, but he's NEVER on that side of the tank. That's kind of puzzled me to. I thought they liked it warm, but he's always on the cool side of the tank.

I got him in a 45 gal long breeder tank.
