question about CGD

polosue25 Aug 11, 2004 07:53 PM

I (think) my crested has sucessfully switched over to CGD, there are times that I definitely see tongue prints in it (and foot prints too, very cute). I'm wondering about storing it--on the bottle it says it 'lasts longer if kept in the fridge'--does this mean the powder itself? (which I have been keeping in the fridge) I mix up a couple days worth in a small covered jar and keep that refrigerated as well so I don't have to mix new stuff every night, as doing it in such small amounts resulted in it always coming out pretty watery but in larger amounts it works well. Just want to make sure that it's ok to do this as it's a bit unclear from the label.

HI

ALL of our cresteds(100 at the moment) are fed the CGD. We store the powder in the fridge and if we end up with extra we cover it and keep that in the fridge as well....so...you are on the right track!!

I agree, Shawn and Amy are absolutely correct. The whole purpose of the "refrigerate" is to slow the grow of microbes, the tiny organisms that make the food go bad, which you don't want. I do not have a huge list of geckos, but I have a fair share and the list is growing. *wink wink*

What we do is mix the stuff up, put it in the larger baby food jars (or other airtight container) and label when it was mixed and made. For our younger guys/gals, we mix a half and half concoction of baby food and CGD and as they get older and older the ratio heads towards a stronger mixture of the CGD. About a half hour or so before feeding time, we ration out the food and let it stand until it reaches room temp. then feed accordingly. I hope that this helps a bit. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any more questions.

thanks guys, I figured it was probably ok but just wanted to make sure.

Significant others seem to have trouble coming in second to a bunch of animals...fortunately I've got mine well trained
