Tegu is #1 reptile but what is #2?

drykilllogic83 Aug 11, 2004 08:08 PM

I have had my red tegu for about a year now and I love her. I really don’t think I could get another reptile that could compare with tegus but I do want another reptile. Right now between me and my roommate we have a red tegu, 2 crested geckos, 2 leopard geckos, 3 corn snakes (which I believe are pretty boring), and 2 bearded dragons. So, I am looking for another reptile that is fun to play with and watch like my tegu. So, my question is what kind of reptile would you suggest for me?

what makes these snakes better than other snakes? I heard that carpet pythons are great snakes but do you think that pituophis snakes are better?

What about beardies they are a friendly enough lizard with tons of personality. Just a thought. Of course you ask a question like that and you are likely to get a different answer from every one. Another thought just get a second Tegu. Just check them all out till you find the one that makes you happy. Good luck

Rhino iguanas are supposed to be great. If I was looking for another large lizard, I'd be wanting one. You might sheck into skinks; they are supposed to tame well and I know they are rather curious. My beardies are still one of my favorites, and I just got a pair of baby ackie monitors that are just a riot to watch. The trouble is, there are just too many cool reptiles.

personally, after i just got my arg black and white, I think that frilled dragons are amazing, My male is just and personable and attentive as any tegu that I have seen, beardies are great but they dont get big enough, my aussie red frill is 47 inches snout to tail.

I'm getting a chameleon as my next herp. I've seen several at pet stores and expos, and they are really wild. I want a jacksons because they look like mini-tricerotops! Supposedly they exhibit lots of personality as well. A little difficult, but well worth it. I also plan on getting some ackies next summer. I hear nothing but good things about these goofy little guys. Beardies are also very cool, as are frilled dragons and sailfin dragons.

As of right now I am leaning towards a frilled dragon. I would really love to obtain a rhino iguana or an ackie monitor but I don't want another large enclosure in my room. With the frilled dragon cage taking more vertical space than horizontal space is easier for me to deal with. Some people have suggested skinks. How are skinks personalities? I have heard that they are like snakes with legs. I am not sure if the people that told me this were referring to their appearances or personalities. I really don't want a lizard with a personality like a snake. To be honest, I think snakes have pretty much no personalities. Sorry if I insulted anybody because that was not my intentions.

I don't own one, but it is something that I'm keeping in mind when I go to the Daytona show on Saturday. I saw a young one at the Orlando show last month that was just happily walking around on top of the cage, curious about everything. Tried to chew on the electric plug, and didn't get pissy or scared when directed away from it. I think the 'like a snake' thing is because of the tiny legs. This one sure had personality.

Like I said... the problem is to many cool reptiles!

Godd luck on finding your new critter.
