Hi I am new here and to water dragons!!

DogStar Jun 23, 2003 10:40 PM

Just wanted to introduce myself, I just got a water dragon so I might be here asking questions! I have various snakes and beardies. Zubi is my first water dragon, pretty cool little guy.
Hes missing a toe and his lips look a little beat up though.
He likes those huge meal worms, not sure if he's eating crickets. I believe he was wild caught, he's only 30 grams, kinda skinny looking but not bad.
Anyone have any tips for me?

thats cool.
where did you get it from?

how long is it (nose to tip of the tail)? Sorry, i cant be stuffed weighing mine ( they never stay still.. or stay still where u want them to!)

Are you sure you should be feeding them meal worms? I heard if your dragons are not big enough the worms can bite though their stomuch.

How big is the tank that your holding him in? Ive got mine in a 200 cm, 100cm 100cm.

hehehe I'm asking more questions here, but I'm just tring to get an idea.
You got a digital camra? If you do take some pics! I would love to see them

Superworms cannot eat through their stomachs, that is just an urban legend. They aren't the most nutrious food, but they are better than nothing. Make sure you take him to the vet for a check-up, he probably has parasites and the vet can give you medication for his face also.

I work in a vet clinic, got everything to my disposal and don't even have to pay!
I have already wormed him and will start the antibios tonight. He's not that interested in crickets, only the superworms.
And that is if he sees them, I'm not sure he is seeing them on the bottom of his cage, so I wired a bowl to the side towards the top and he isn't eating out of that either.
He's just a little dude in a smaller reptarium right now. But don't worry I will get a bigger one eventually.
Yeah the thing about the worms eating out of the stomach is complete bunk, there is no way anyone is going to convince me that I shouldn't feed mealworms after watching my beardy and now the water dragon crunch them to squishy bits. I did, however read that superworms are more nutritious than plain meal worms. Can anyone comment? (I supplement of course)

Thanks

My female never ate crickets either only worms. All kinds of worms. At about a year she started eating pinkies. She is starting to fatten up now. She had eggs and lost her appetite for a while. I think when she had some room in her belly for food she gained her appetite back. Neither of them like eating out of a bowl. They just eat out of my hand or I sit the food in front of them and they strike it. See you around.

Never had the problem of not eating crickets, after i got rid of the parasites mine had, he'll eat anything that moves, outside of the enclosure, inside, on the ground in my hand, my finger... lol. I measure mine at night cause they lay down flat for you, and they wont hop all over then you try to measure them.
Reptariums can be dangerous cause of snout rub.
