Careing for a Baby Eastern Box Turtle

Covenant Jun 23, 2003 10:43 PM

Hello all. I've had many many different species of turtles through out my life. But never have I seen a baby box turtle except in pictures. Well today I came into work and some one had brought him in to us. By the way I work for an animal organization. Any ways how do I care for a baby box turtle? I have him outside in a flower pot at the moment. The flower pot is circular about two feet across all the way around. It's also filled with dirt and has no flowers just has grass and various little plants and weeds growing in it. Also I stuck a little top from a bowl in there for him to get water out of. Is there some thing special I should do for him or any thing I can do? He's about as big as a quarter also. Thank you for any help.

Mike

Mike, please visit my personal domain www.aileo.com, and the menu for my name (nathan) has a turtle site link, and my photo albums have three full albums of turtles and their pens there.

The turtle page (www.aileo.com/aileona/) has some good info on how to set up and keep a hatchling box turtle. I keep them indoors their first year of life (more like their first 9-10 months), then turn them loose in my outdoor pens.

Setting them up can be a bit tricky, but once you get it working right it's quite easy to maintain. The key points are lights, temperature, and humidity.
