Tonight I found a rattle snake skin and was picking it up when I noiticed it actually went down into a hole. I carefully tugged on the skin to see if it was just resting there, and I suddenly saw a baby rattle snake about 8 to 10" long that went down into the hole. I had just read the posts below about rookeries so I left the area alone. Does this sound like anything, or was it just a snake that went down a hole.

I've seen about 10 - 12 rattlesnakes in this 4 sq mi area, but never a baby.

Which reminds me - what is the truth vs myth about the baby rattle snake bite compared to an adult. I've heard it delivers too much venom because it has less control, but that doesn't sit well with me. And I've heard that a baby has a neurotoxin instead of a hemotoxin. Is this true? Does this mean a baby can stop your breathing?
