Rust problems with Freedom-Breeder rack starting to get really bad.

Damon Aug 12, 2004 08:48 AM

Was wondering if anyone else out there keeping ball pythons in the freedom-breeder racks are having rust problems.

My one rack, only seems to be the one is rusting really bad. The paint is coming off in chunks, and all the empty trays are filled with fine specs of rust-dust.

Even the track were the trays slide in and out or full of rust, as you can feel it when you pull the trays in and out.

I hate to b i t c h about this but I thought one of the features of these racks is that there powder-coated so they don't rust.

Was thinking of re-painting mine, but thats impossible since I have no other place to put the snakes while I do it.

Also the whole racks seems to have rusted into ONE big rack, and moving the whole thing outside even with the casters is not going to be fun.

My racks are only 3-4 years old.

For the money they charge, I would not expect rust - especially after such a short time. Were these indoors?

I would contact Freedom. It could be that this rack missed a step in the process.

Its a common problem with them from what I hear. A couple of locals that have had them got rid of them because they were rusting so bad. I saw them and couldnt believe it. They looked like something out of the scrap yard. I would call Freedom up and tell them about your problem.

all that money......high humidity reqiring snakes...and rust...not cool....

anyways.......

buy some bags...(reptilepackaging.com //Superior )......get enough bags for all the snakes....label them with a marker......

then use emory cloth or wire brush to clean the rack....then recoat it......

with what I don't know.....clear coat?...spray on rust proofing.....clear or white......

ask the people at a paint store...what to use...tell them it has to be food safe..easier than explaining snake thingy.....tell them it's rusty and kitchen and you need it safe for children and food prepping.......

good luck.........

JY

bags......they are only $1 each for the biggest ones......and can be reused.............

Damon,

How is your second clutch coming along (the Pastel x Normal)? Is that one egg the only one that has gone bad? Good luck!

Blanket box RhinoRaxx for small-med adults & when I need them, I will use the Ballroom RhinoRaxx. I also have a smaller RhinoRaxx for babies on the way. I'm stuck on the Boaphile racks, they work great, no rust, no escapes, hold humidity well, provide the animal with the much needed security, and good prices.
