Mutant Common Garter

naturexchange Aug 12, 2004 09:54 AM

Check out this outrageous animal from Upstate NY. Found yesterday in a barn. I gotta admit at first I thought it was an exotic, but it's just a garter snake. Hypererythistic I guess? Evidently the genes for this got into a small group, both the mom, father and son have said they have seen more then just this single animal. I'm taking some more pics of it.

Best,
Kenny

Hey I told you on the garter forum and in a message I sent you, the snake is a flame garter snake.

I bought snakes off of the gut who supposedly produced that snake.Bright red in the pics.Received the snakes.Bright orange. After all the trouble I went through with customs .It was'nt worth it to complain. Also I was told by him that the snake was one of a kind and it died at 9 months.Yet there is a pic in a small garter book of three babies that look identical. All doctored by a doctor.

Hi Tom,
Agreed. I think the pic posted of that bright contrasty BRIGHT RED "FLAME" is doctored as well. The snake I have, while bright, is more of a carrot color and it is not STRIKING bright red. I'm not even sure if it would fit into what some people are calling FLAME. Basically, it's a mutation of some kind and whatever it is called, I call it AMY....after a red-head up here. So, from now on....it is an AMY morph!!! LOL.

Best,
Kenny

Hi Tom,
The belly is a solid salmon to carrot colored. The photo I posted is true to form. Actuallly, the lady who found it took the pic. I'm going to take some more shots after she get's out of opaque.

Regards,
Kenny
