annoying eye caps help?!

draconian Aug 12, 2004 11:41 AM

I seem to have a problem with humidity but my snakes get eye caps. They usually go away with ther next shed and a couple of hours worth of soaking.I have one in particular that can't get the things off. I try soaking in warm water to loosen them up and use tweezers to peel them off but it just wont work for this snake. I think I did more harm than good with the tweezers so I just let him be can anyone help?

I have heard you can buy an over the counter topical eye ointment for dry eyes for humans and it should work fine or an antibiotic ointment.
Do you have a screen lid? Do you ever have it covered? Screen lids make humidity difficult to keep in so you could cover about 3/4th of the top with a damp towel and/or place the water dish 1/2 over the UTH (if you have one) or under your heat light. This will also promote good humidity.

If you are sure there is an eye cap still stuck there you can take scotch tape and wrap it around your finger with the sticky side out and roll your finger across the cap. It will likely remove the cap and won't damage the eye, certainly safer than tweezers. Good luck.

Also, I keep aluminum foil across half of my screen lid to hold in humidity.
