Demographic pre-results. (still looking for more data!)

Oscar Parsons Aug 12, 2004 12:44 PM

I'm going to post some of the results for the forum, but I'm still looking for more data points. Frank, RSG, and anyone else who hasn't contributed, please think about doing so we can get some very interesting information.

We have the information from 24 people.
Total 173 animals.

Animals that were are beleived to be sexed:
Males 60 females 59 Unknown 54

Number of eggs incubating: 80

Number of distinct animal groups: 34
I would say species, however there are a few hybrids.
35 if you count oditriads V. komodoensis

Animal group with the highest population:Varanus salvator salvator with 24, next is Varanus exanthematicus, with 19
The Varanus acanthurus come in third with 18 however!
However if we add the red and yellow ackies, they beat both groups, and we have 31 ackies! 18 red, and 13 yellow.

Largest species in our group: Varanus salvadorii with 2 submitted (c'mon rope!!)
Smallest species in our group: Varanus caudolineatus with 2 submitted.

Average number of animals per owner: 7.208. That's alot of monitors folks!

Thanks very much to those who've participated, if you'd like the raw data please email me and I'll send the spreadsheet to you.

Also if you HAVE NOT participated, please do so! Simply submit your name, species/common name, and their genders, and how many you've got to this post or email me if you'd like to be kept confidential.

This little progject can give EVERYONE something to talk about, and it helps to include everyone in the conversations. Thanks very much for your time!

I just thought it would be a fun activity for everyone that wouldn't cause any fights. I figured I'd do all the work and everyone could benefit.

OSCAR, hey man. about largest varanid on this forum, i think thats misleading. look at shvars albig female. she could beat most 7 foot croc monitors in bulk alone! plus, theres a few guys lurking with 60 lb 7 foot salvators that would dwarf everything else. thanks for the work on this, im interested... and very suprised salvators were the majority. any ackie keepers wanna challenge me, i have a big hungry water monitor that will eat your entire collection. so nyaaah. -john

I have got one male and one female red ackies, I am about to inherit a blackthroat but I suppose that doesn't count if I don't allready have him. I didn't know if you want the complete list of my herps or just the monitors, so I gave you just the monitors.

Take care,
Sera
