what should i do?

leoman89 Aug 12, 2004 02:50 PM

i know how everyone says that uth are best for leos. well i turned mine on for my baby leo and it got to hot in her rock cave. the floor temp wasnt too hot but the air was because uth makes the air above it the same temp as the floor rite? well since the rock cave is a small confined hiding spot the air got to hot. so my leo wont go in there anymore unless the uth is off. and before the uth was on she was doing fine with just the 25watt but since everyone says that uth are better than the lamps i tryed it with my baby. sorry about the long post.

My only leo is named Maverick. I got him from sombody who didnt want him... he has lost almost every single toe because they didn't take care of him.

yes she is on paper towel.

Try and place the cave half on the warm side and half on the cool side, this may help by allowing your leo to thermo-regulate as she pleases.

or get a dimmer switch at the hardware store so you can turn down the heat

i already have one but its on the other side of my room. i use it for my male leos light.and the problem is that the rock hid that she has is small and confined so if i have the uth on its going to make the air inside the hide too hot. its not the floor temp thats too hot in the rock hide its the sir that is too hot from the uth.

i had this problem before when i had to separate my too adults. it would get too hot in her rock hide too but i switched her too her log hide since it hade better ventalation in wouldnt get too hot . but i dont have anymore of the log hides so i cant use them with my baby. all i have is the rock hide and the air gets too hot since there is nowhere for the heat to go

hey what i did when my leo's cage got too hot from the uth was added more paper towel. then after quarentine i switched to slate which is working great.

does the uth cover the whole bottom of the cage?If not, then just move the rock cave so its not directly on top of the heater.I use a uth made for a 5 gallon tank in my 10 gal, that way only one end of the tank is heated.

only one side of the tank is covered with the uth im problably going to get a log hide like in my female adults cage and she is also on a uth and it never gets too hot in her hide. but rite now only half of the rocks hide is on the uth.

I put 3 hides, 1 above the UTH (next to the humid hide), 1 on the cool side, and 1 in the middle. That way my guy can choose and he does move from to the other from time to time.

well she is a baby in a ten gallon and there isnt enough room for that many hides
