a few questions..

BeardieGurl Aug 12, 2004 03:32 PM

My beardie is probably over a year old now, 14 inches. I got Roxy on september 27, 2003. I'm still uusing paper towels for the bottom of his cage. *Could i change to washed play sand?

another question..

*How can you tell if its a male or female? I'm pretty sure its a boy even tho it's name is roxy, lol!

He has been being kind of wierd about when he goes to the bathroom, this is how it went a few days ago: she goes in the morning, next day he goes again, next day he skips, (he skips 2 days or so.), and then today he pooed VERY large. *Is something odd about this? *should I be worrying? I think this will pass....

I know i should have him out atleast a half hour each day but i just got a boxer puppy and of course i have to watch him like a hawk to potty train, well i havn't been taking her out every day because i dont want the dog to hurt him, (the cats bit him and a 160$ vet bill, i luv him and dont want any thing to happen to him again.) *Is there any advice i could get to make him happier but not have to have her in danger. (if that question made sense?lol)sry so long!

Hope I get some advice,
Lauren&Roxy

It's probably ok to switch to sand now, if you want. Personally I prefer non-adhesive shelf-liner. It's soooo easy to keep clean.

Here is a link to help you sex your dragon. www.dachiu.com/sexing.html

Adults will sometimes not poop every single day. I'd say skipping one day here and there is fairly normal. Skipping 2 days there may be too many insects in it's diet. The chitin in the insects can be harder to digest. 3 days or more is worrysome, then you start worrying about impaction and you'll want to give a warm soak to help it out.

I don't think not handling every day is gonna be a big problem. I don't get a chance to handle both of my beardies everyday, but they don't seem to mind chilling in their tanks. As long as they get the attention they need as far as food and cleanliness, they do fine getting let out every other day or so.

Are you crate training your dog? It's a very healthy and successful way to potty train a puppy, teaches many good habits and gives the dog a place of it's own. They are den animals and a crate trained dog will view it's crate not as punishment, but as a home w/in it's home. It would also give you some time to handle your beardie while the dog is in it's crate.

yes i do crate my pup, he's getting the hang of going outside to potty. he's doing pretty good but not enough to let him do whatever.

i dont crate him at night, but he does really well sleeping with me.

i will crate brock (dog) for a little while each day or so,to handle roxy!
thanx for the advice, i didn't know if any one would help!
