This is Mo with yellow fungus...

She also has it growing around her left eye, on two of her finger nails, and now on the tip of her nose. We've tried everything from ketoconazole, miconazole, itraconazole, lamasil, SSD cream and a bunch of others. Nothing has been able to wipe it out. Although the itraconazole had the best lasting effects before the fungus came back. And the SSD cream seems to make the area you apply it to shed and regenerate new fungus-free skin. But Mo's fungus keeps coming back. She hasn't had a bad skin break out like above in the photo for a long time. She used to look like the beardie in your photo.

She only has the "growths" I mentioned above. And the growths are spongy, wart like things that easily come off if rubbed. She has a ferocious appetite and seems otherwise fine. Our local reptile vet is stumped. We are trying things like grapefruit seed extract, because GSE has a lot of antifungal properties and shouldn't be harmful to her. If anything comes of it I will let everyone know! As I know they are currently researching a cure for this yellow fungus that is plaguing our beardies.

The best thing you can do is to keep the poo away from your beardie. The poo contains the fungus and that's why it's spread from the vent out on your beardie. And it is very very contagious to other beardies. You can spread it by your hands too!

Also, try giving your beardie baths in Nolvasan. Cheri has some good info about this on her fungus article on her website. Just don't get the Nolvasan in your beardies eyes. It can be very damaging!

Good luck!

the topicals, also probiotics. He has too, you will lose him if you do not. This is not going to go away on its own or stay the same, its going deeper into the dermis layer. Once it reaches into organs or the circulatory system it will be fatal.

What oral meds was he on, if he did not tolerate them well, you can try another or try the pulse method of treatment which is alternating days on and off.

I know you have the cultures done, which fungus was it? If I remember correctly it was a mold one. and that can take off accelerating at any time and it moves fast when it does/

Sorry hun, even if sick on the meds, he has to have them to have a chance to survive

A hurricane will be hitting here tomorrow, I may not be able to get back online.

Terbinafine has been the most successful with least side effects and used every other day along with acidolphiliz or another probiotic and you have to use the nolvasan to debried the area and topical antifungal creame, we recommend lamisil (its over the counter at pharmacy)

Best to you and him!

Hello Cheri. I have been hoping and praying that you guys don't suffer any major crisis during this nasty storm. You're in our daily thoughts.

We are going to get Mo back on meds. I think I'll try the Terbinafine next. The itraconazole seemed to work some, but the fungus never fully went away and she was on the meds for 3 weeks. It was pretty hard on her but like you said once the fungus takes hold of the internal organs there's not much that you can really do. And it's obvious that the fungus is still spreading because Mo has a new area on the tip of her nose that just recently took hold. I'm scared about losing her and have been doing everything that I know of to help her. I appreciate your help and advice in helping her.

Try to have a good day Cheri and don't worry about getting back to me anytime soon. You worry about your "kids" and take care of yourself.

Cheri, I forgot to ask ... what is the dosage for the oral Terbinafine? And should I try to get my vet to prescribe it even if the topical Lamasil wasn't effective? Could it be effective internally even if it didn't work externally? By the way, Mo's fungus was identified as Fusarium. I've tried to do research on what meds are effective against that type of fungus but haven't come up with much....

Thanks!

If the lamisil did not respond, makes me wonder if she also has a bacterial infection secondary to the fusarium?

I have yet to see where lamisil did not improve the area in apperance, unless there was also bacteria present and that had to be treated topically too. Around the eye is so hard as you can not use the nolvasan too

I can not remember the dose, the last one we tested for the reserachers was duflucan 150 mg and that was way too harsh on the dragon and did not seem to be helping.

Let me dig around online and I should be able to locates it. Also Dr Maas in Indianapolis has has sucess with mixing ITRACONAZOLE and KETOCONAZOLE together, so you might want to contact him also:

Adolf Maas, DVM
St. Francis' Pet Hospital

or

Dr Pare again for his recommendations.

I know it is hard, its a balancing act of how much the dragon can tolerate, but they still need to have the oral meds for these types and I know they are so hard on them.
