Update on pair of PTS not eating

jrbl Aug 12, 2004 06:04 PM

Hi,
My niece is staying with me, so there is a lot of baby food around. I have been feeding my skinks sweet potato, green bean, and banana baby food through a syringe. I also am feeding them liquefied greens (collards, chard, and dandelion). I have been feeding the about one syringe full (about 4CC's) of each type of food for the past three days. They just lap the food up, and they really seem to like it. They have been a little more active since I started feeding them the baby food, and I will start offering real food tonight or tomorrow. I have been busy, so I haven't had a chance to take them to the vet, but I still plan to do so in the next couple of days.
The temps have been pretty consistent and around 85 lately, so they might go off their hunger strike soon. If anyone thinks the baby food thing is a bad idea, please tell my immediately.

Kim,
I do not chop up my greens, but everything else is chopped up into tiny, bite-sized pieces. I know chopping up the greens is recommended, but they seem to prefer chomping on the whole leaves to the bite sized pieces. By the way, Dill is a real cutie.
Zeteki,
I do not have a min/max thermometer, but I will get one soon.
PTSkinks,
Thanks for the advice. Fig is a really good idea, but it is hard to find around here. If I am not mistaken, fig is in the diet of wild skinks.

The normal diet of pink tongue skinks is snails among other invertebrates in the wild. There is a good site on pink tongues out there (the pink tongue skink information centre)you will find real good husbandry info there. Also your temps seem way to high. Try mid 70's to low 80's. I have a pair that I feed earthworms, crickets, snails and just started to try superworms. Believe me I think they are real quirky when it comes to eating. I have yet to see them eat and I have had them for over 2 yrs. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Sometimes my PTS stop eating too for a day or two mainly when they are shedding. Where i live is too hot too and when its too hot for them they spend the whole day inside their huge bowl of water! They immerse the whole body in the water, only the tip of the snout is kept out!
By the photo one of your PTS seems a little bloated.I think you should take it to the vet to check for parasites.
