Well, I decided to let the black rat snake go.
I found him in my yard so back to my yard he went. Hopefully I may see him again.

I know that must have been a tough choice but I think you made the correct one. If he was younger he would probably adapt more easily but once they get past a year I generally would not keep a wild caught snake.

I'm glad you did the right thing and let the wild animals stay wild, you just got more respect from me for that decision (not sure if it matters to you or not though lol.) If you're interested in another black ratsnake, they have them on the classifieds for $10 i saw earlier today.

You did the right thing. He was born in the wild and should live the rest of his life out there You can get a CB black rat for cheap and be sure he/she is parasite free.

>>I let him go in the wood pile next to my side porch and figured as soon as it got dark he would leave the wood pile and hit the road.
Well, when I got home from work today I went out to feed my Red-Foot Tortoise and there on top of the wood pile was the black rat. He just slowly slid down between the logs.
I doubt he will have a food supply to keep him around but it was pretty cool that he wasn't too overly stressed by his visit with me...lol
