Water monitors

Is an Asian water monitor the same as the sumatran water monitor? If not, what's the difference relating to size and temperment?

pretty sure that sumatrans are more colorful. But I would go to proexotics.com and read their care sheet on them. I don't think there is a different in size and temperent though.

Asian water monitor is a common name to generalize the entire group. sumatran water monitor is a variety from sumatra, varanus salvator salvator. theres big variation in sumatran waters, some are way more colorful than others. also, high yellow ones we are calling sumatran water monitor definitely come from kalimantan and java too. sumatrans in wild have been measured at 7 feet. captives are known to reach 6 or more. -john
