Newbie-Need advice on collared Lizards

Foxjaw Aug 12, 2004 09:00 PM

I've been thinnking about getting a collared Lizard for about the past 10 years and have finally decided to do it. I'm planing on building a long, low (maybe 5 foot long) plywood vivarium with a plexiglass front. can anyone give me any pointers on what all I will need to put into my vivarium. I really want to make it a good looking mini environment.
Also, where can I get a nice looking male Collared lizard at a reasonable price. I dont want to get one from the wild.

Thanks
Fox

you want it at least 18" high and about 18" deep. with 5' legth you have a good enclosure. of coarse bigger is better. look at a 55 gallon aquarium to get an idea of the size.

get some flat rocks to stack up under the heat light.

playsand in the bottom.

uvb source.

thats the basics i think.

if you are making a cage of wood or something, keep in mind that it must support heavy rocks and lots of sand so it needs to be sturdy.

here is my setup, its 48"long 18"deep and 24" high. the top 7" is for light housings
