blue stripped garter

i need help about 2 years ago i took family to florida for christmas we live in louisiana while there i happend upon a blue gater under some old bannana leaves im interested in breeding but im being told there not availible in the pet trade can someone please give me an idea on how to go about getting another ( hopfully without going back to florida please) thanks george

There are two animals you may be referring to. The bluish striped morph of the Eastern Garter T. s. sirtalis in Florida or the actual Blue-Striped Garter T. s. similis found along the north western part of Florida. This second subspecies is often called the "true blue" Garter. They are indeed found in the pet trade and there are folks breeding them. I saw one in the classified area of this web site within the last week in fact. Keep in mind T. s. similis is only found in Florida and it is unlawful for people in Florida to sell native species, but there are people around the country offering cb animals on a regular basis. Be patient and one will come your way.
