How to divide my tank

drdoolittle1 Aug 13, 2004 08:01 AM

I'm expecting my first babies shortly. I have 2 geckos in a 55 gallon tank, with a UTH on one side. I cannot set up a new tank (my hubby would kill me, I already have 5 tanks!), so I'm wondering how I can divide the 55 to keep babies safe. I assume I'll need a UTH for the other side, but any thought on what would be best to use as a divider? Do the babies need any more heat or light than the grown ups? Once they hatch, I just put them in the new tank, or do I give them some time in the dish in the incubator?

Thanks-

I have divided tanks before I got my racks but there is always a chance of escape over the divider, or my pushing on the sides. It probably wouldn't be a problem if it was only babies on the other side but I would worry with the adults.

You would probably be better off getting some sterilite or rumbermaid shoeboxes(5 or 6 quart) with the lids(target, walmart). Then make some holes all the way around the box(a sodering iron works really well and are only like 10 dollars at home depot). Then you can use a human heat pad under half of it or maye even a UTH if you have a thermostat.

Ohh and I ususaly take my babies out of the incubator as soon as I find them, some people leave them in for awile though, it is really a personal preference i guess. I worry about other eggs getting turned, I had on hatchling this year dig a hole in the perlite all the way to the bottom of the container.

You can divide the tank using aquarium silicon and Plexiglass.

The silicon takes about 12 hours to dry.
