Youngest and Oldest age to breed?

BrianD Aug 13, 2004 10:15 AM

One of my friends asked me how many times I can breed a Boa female and what is the age limit and I didn't have the answer. I know that a female should be 5+ and a male 3+, but I read a thread where a guy bred his female at 3yrs. I'm wondering what is the youngest and oldest a boa has been bred and how many times do you think a female can breed in her life before you should retire her?? Just making conversation. Thanks

I'm not one for morphs, but those two hypos are awesome! Are they Gee line animals of Salmon (Ihle)? When will you be breeding them for the first time?

The male I purchased from Ian Demello of Select Reps and was labeled as Harmon Line, but I have no clue who Harmon is.

The female I purchased from Jeff Risher of Hall of Fame Reptiles and the mother to the boa was a Hypo from The Boa Basement. I forget who the father was, but I know he was a hypo because my girl is a possible super. In the same clutch as her was some very extremely unusual patterned siblings so I'm hoping she throws some nice babies.

As far as when I am breeding them, well she is only an 02 so if I follow the norm it would still be a couple of years. She is putting on some nice weight, but I do want to be safe with her. Thanks for the compliments.

I started breeding my centralxsalmon hypo pair at about 18 mos. She had a great litter just before her second birthday, I also bred her again the next year, so she actually had two litters before her third bithday. Remember though that these are mostly central american, and are barely 5 feet now.I plan on breeding the 18 month old babies this year, so she could be a grandma by age 4. Craig Kade

Wow that is something, how many babies did she lay? My female is about 5 ft and has a diameter of about 3" and was born in early 02 so I'm putting her at about 28 months of age. It would be cool to get some babies this season, but I already have some Jungle Carpets that are ready so I think I will at least wait untill the following season for the Boas. Thanks Again for the info, BrianD

I want to say she had like 18 or 22 babies, I would have to check my records though
