Anacondas Movie Presentation

imridethelghtng Aug 13, 2004 01:35 PM

I just got off the phone with the manager of the local theatre that will be showing the new anacondas movie i wanted to call him and set up a presentation on anacondas to show the public that the movies are full of crap and the guy laughed at me like i was joking with him at first i explained to the man that i was serious and that i wanted to clear up some of the hype that comes with movies and by this time the man stated to me that there is no hype about snakes in his theatre that snakes are dangerous and continued on to tell me that the only good snakes are dead snakes yet the guy is still worried about making an extra buck because he told me to call him back on monday to set something up regaurdless of his position on snakes i will still do a presentation on anacondas if permitted because every little bit of good publicity helps even if i only get through to one or two people

I would advise not taking annie for a walk to the theatre. People need to be forwarned if there is going to be a snake present in an area where there is not normally snakes. This is what can hurt the hobby. Do you want people to see this movie and see how big they are getting and "how mean they GET when they get big" that is going to be peoples response who do not understand that most snakes are far worse as babies than adults. Then they will see someone in their town has one as a pet and they will be scared it will get loose and come after them. This is how people that know nothing about anbacondas think. I think a table at a theatre is a great idea but do not just have the snakes. Have credible information available for people to read about the different species, sizes, and realistic sizes of these animals. I would also mention that numbers in captivity as pets is very low and only dedicated people should have these snakes and there are no known recorded human deaths from anacondas in captivity. Just my take on how to go about it.

i agree with you i plan on having information pages on the table that people can pick up and read also with all the stress of transporting them to the theatre and people running around the snakes wont be out where people can get to them they will be housed so people can view them but not mess with them maybe i can teach someone that anacondas eyes are on top of their heads instead of off to the side with an evil look replace the bad information with good credible information thats the most important thing in getting my point across

I think its a good idea to have the presentation like you thought but don't take the anacondas with you. Maybe you could invite the people to your house or next reptile show to show them the anacondas.

Hmmm,
Well, I dont know what your anacondas temperment is but I know not all have the bad temperment. We take ours to the park, and the local petstore. She is handled by us and by the public on a weekly basis. She has an awsome temperment, especially considering when we first got her she would do nothing but bite us! I think they might have caught her wild. But now she is as sweet as can be. I dont agree about taking an anaconda that is not used to alot of strange people and smells, or has a bad temperment. But if you absolutely know your Anaconda as well as we know ours and you know it can handle it, then I say WHY NOT!!!
Our city is getting to know more about Ancondas thanks to our girl. She is used to being handled by everyone including people that smell like her dinner. She has never bitten anyone...since she was a baby. So I think she would be a great candidate for something like that.Though most the city already has met her and knows about her, we are thinking of doing the same thing here at our theater. Even people that are scared of snakes usally come over and watch from a safe distance and even get curious and ask questions. We've even managed to change a few scared peoples thoughs on snakes and got them to completely turn araound and love them! It is so awsome to see someone who is terrified of snakes take that first step and reach out and touch them. I hope you guys stick with this idea. Even if you do not take the snakes yourself. Though I think even a table with a tank on it (If yours is still small enough) and the snake safely inside would be a great idea!

its funny that man is so scared of snakes and the unknown, when looked with an open and honest mind, man kills for sheer pleasure while snakes & other animals kill only for survival. Aint that a thought.
