Aesculapian Snakes

OK, how about another snake you don't see every day, the former Elaphe longissima, anyone working with them? Another underrated snake,to say the least. Always cool to meet folks who work with critters beyond the norm.

Hi

I currently keep 4 lines of Zamenis lomgissimus. These snakes must be some of my alltime favorites. One of the fascinating things is the many different localities, where they tend to vary a great deal. Not only in colour but also in total lenght of the snake. Like most of the other European ratsnakes they prefer fairly low temperatures. This really is a snake that deserves a shot in every Ratsnake-collection

Bart:
I'm working with a pair of yearling german locale longissima. It took me quite a while to find any. You're right they are interesting. They should enjoy the cold temperatures of a New England winter basement.

After 4 years of searching, I finally obtained an LTC male. I came to the conclusion that the Romans needed more hobbies. Pretty neat snake though... kinda... shiny.

Bart,
I have some Russian longissma that should be able to breed next season. This photo was taken a couple of years ago. They are great snakes and unfortunately not seen much here in the US. I wish I could obtain some different locales, such as the ones Claus has. I have a cousin who is a Biology professor in Portugal and I hope to work something out with him in order obtain some European Ratsnakes. I also have a couple different locales of scalaris, and I say that Bart is right in that it is nice to see some of the less commonly kept ratsnakes.

Oh, mine's from Russia too, I guess.
