Chris,
...Chatham County has not been seriously hit by a hurricane in a long long time. There is the local opinion that because the coast comes in westward and we are so far from the gulf stream that we are protected. It may also just be that we have been lucky. I was down in Florida for the Daytona Expo during the hurricane. I stayed at my parents house south of Daytona and we did not get hit too hard. Friday evening it was gusting to about 45 so I went road hunting. The snakes were not out but the road was crowded with frogs. Later we had more wind with gusts around 55. There were lots of trees down and some minor damage to buildings. Much of Central Florida is still without electricity. The people who stayed in Daytona Beach for the show were right in the path of the hurricane. There was a lot of damage near the convention center. The convention center was undamaged and had electricity while most of the surrounding area was powerless. The show went on as scheduled with a very poor turnout saturday. Sunday the turnout was still down but much better than saturday.

Jeff,

Glad to hear the storm didn't slow things down too much. I thought for sure from watching the reports that it was going to nail us. We stocked up on water and what-not.

I hear you on the frogs....I find tons of them...along with Sliders and Garter snakes.

Where can I find Copperheads and Corns? (For the sake of finding them that is...I know GA is off limits...and I generally don't collect wild animals....

How did you do at the show? Sell lots of babies?

Chris,
...This time of year most species of local snakes are easiest to find road hunting in the evening. The best location for road hunting is a drive up into the Okatie area of South Carolina. I sold about half of what I expected I would at the show.
