New Babes today!! A few questions

Drdoolittle1 Aug 13, 2004 08:58 PM

Thanks to all of you who have responded to my silly questions, I have my first hatchlings today. I have a few questions. I have a 55 gallon tank, divided in half for my 2 grownups and hatchlings. How long should I expect to keep them divided?? Can I eventually keep them together? My hatchlings should be female, my grown ups are 1:1. Is inbreeding a problem or commonplace? I know they will not eat til after their 1st shed, but when should I expect that to happen?? My grownups eat crickets only, is this an acceptable 1st meal for the babies?

Thanks-

Well, from what I have read around here, putting a 1.1 group together is a bad idea. The male will bug the female all the time. I don't know from experince though, I only have 2 females right now. Also, I would not allow the younger with the older unti they are the same size. Crickets are what most people feed as a first meal. I used small mealworms for my little girls first meal. I think it depends on the gecko. Good luck with the little guys!!

A 1.1 pair of geckos is usually fine. Sometimes the females will get too much lovin', but not always. Just pay attention.
