panther cage help

ejtchr Aug 13, 2004 09:45 PM

The gentlemen who owns the local herp shop advised me becasue of teh higher humidity needs of Panther Chameleons a glass and screen cage would be better than all screen. Anybody have an opinion?

Thanks,

I think most people are going to tell you that at least 3 sides need to be screen. I have all of my chams in all screen enclosures and I find that much better. I have a glass one for tiny babies and I really do not see a big difference in humidity.

chams needs lots of ventelation, so glass cages will not do. to keep humidity up get a live plant with dense foilage.

Isn't that dependant on what area the panther is from? Theres all types of panthers out there from all types of climates. As for glass and screen, I hate the idea because I've seen (and still see) what it has done to a Jackson's at a local store. Jackasses.

If you want to successfully keep a panther chameleon, your best bet will be an all screen cage period. Only acceptation to this is with babies up to 3 months because the glass/acrylic contains the food better for the little ones. Panthers can take a wide array of different humidity ranges. Best way to control this is by providing a jungle of plants and misting 3x per day. Hope this helps!
