won't get out of his water bowl

scooby Aug 14, 2004 09:03 AM

I have a 5 foot BCI that I purchased about a month ago. for the last two days he stays in his water bowl. he just shed about a week ago and I examined him closely but don't see any mites. The temperature gradient is fine. I've only had him for a short time but he hasn't done this before. I am worried about the water cooling his body temp down too much. I also read he might be constipated so I took him out this morning and soaked him in warm water for about 15min. but nothing happened. Thanks for any advice.

What is your 'fine' temperature gradient? Does your snake have a good hide spot? Also, look reeeeally closely for mites.

The high side temps start at about 93 and go down to 79 on the low side these are checked with a tempgun.
I think you are right about the hide though. I had a hide in the cage but he was never in it so I took it out. After checking all possibilities I think this is the only thing left. I put his hide back in this morning and he is currently under it. Only time will tell if he stays out of the water bowl and under his hide.

Thanks for your help, Ed

Just wanted to say thanks for the good advice and to let others know who might look at this thread, my boa was using the bowl because he did not have a hide in his cage. I made him a real nice one and he is currently very happy........... in hiding.
