I'm used to popping sand boas on a food scale, but I don't think that would work for large, very wiggly snakes. So... what do you do?

Weigh a sack, put the snake in the sack, weigh the snake in the sack! Tah Dah!
They are pretty wiggly...

I don't have any snakes of significant size yet, but with my smaller snakes I tare out a tall bowl from the scale and put the snake in. It takes them a while to get up and out, which gives me time to read it. On a larger scale though I don't think you can tare out anything?? My scale (MY Weight 6001) can weight I think 12 pounds, but getting a 12 pound snake and container to balance is the real trick. Later BrianD
Where'd you get that 12 pound scale? It sounds perfect.
(sobs quietly at thought of stuffing fiesty pythons in bags, puts bandaids on shopping list)
don't be fooled by the people trying to sell scales in the classifieds for ungodly prices. Here is the link for the scale I use. I did a whole lot of research before I bought one and this one seems to be the best bang for the buck. I think in the classifieds someone is trying to sell the 3001 for the same price as this 6001 with double the compacity.

Wow, it's accurate to the gram? Cool. AND it comes in blue...
Small guys get weighed on the gram scale and larger ones are held by me on a personal scale and then my weight is subtracted.

I put the snake in a large gladware container and weigh it with a digital scale I purchased at Office Max. It was only $25 but only shows ounces. Here is a pic.
