Thinking about getting leo

bradh89 Aug 14, 2004 08:27 PM

I went to petco to see thier lizard selection the other day. I have been thinking about getting a crested gecko but I saw some leos there and I felt sorry for them. The cage was too small and the mealworms they were feeding them were too big. I'm thinking about rescuing one or two of them. My Q is how big do they get? I would really like a leucistic (sp?) if they have one.

Thanks

They get about nine inches tops. I have one in a ten gallon(they arent very active) so shes fine in it as long as you provide for all their needs. I just wouldnt go smaller than a ten gallon. And get a reptile rock cave thing if you can instead of a habba hut because they feel more secure in that. I need to get one for my leo because she is only in her humid hide because she feels safer in there. I assume you know how to take care of them...Post again if you have any questions on their care.

I really dont know what to tell you. Buying from petsotres like these just supports them, and if leos are being bought, then they're gunna keep buying more and miscaring for more. On the other hand I've seen some of those leos and I've thought about saving them before. Something really needs to be done about petstores selling reptiles. The best thing to do is probably just buy from a breeder or something, and not support any petstores. If you need a good care site drgecko.com has everything you need to know.

I guess you are right. If I buy them from petco they will get more. I just feel so bad for the little guys...

I found a morph I like...

I also like shct but they are really expensive most of the time. How many leos could I keep in a 40gallon breeder?

40 gallon breeder? I think breeders have more floor space than a reg 40 gallon right? I'd say about 4 or 5, just make sure they have enough hides. A good rule of thumb is 1 gecko for every 10 gallons, but I think 5 would be okay. Good luck
