EXPO UPDATE...

svreptiles Aug 14, 2004 08:39 PM

Just got home from the Daytona Expo, it seemed to go off without too much of a problem. Getting there was an adventure. Most of the way through Ormond Beach and Daytona, there was no electricity and therefore no traffic lights. Some of the bigger intersections were big free for alls. A police car was parked at the corner with it's lights on, but he wasn't directing traffic, just watching everyone fight there way through. Lots of downed trees, poles, billboards, etc. About one block before the Ocean Center, the lights were on again. There were more vendors than ever, but the crowd was a little lighter than usual. Not as bad as you would expect, all things considered. Anyway, I picked up a few nice kings and made it home fine, so a good day for me.

I was there Sat. A couple of the dealers told me they were practically sold out before noon. The crowd was light till mid afternoon, but the buyers were definitly making up for the no shows. One dealer said that a third of the dealers did not show and I did see several empty tables.

Still Came out with three gorgeous new additions and four good new books for the library.

The toughest part was that there were extremely few gas stations open due to the power loss in the region.
