Pet Shop Horror Story!!

PythonMikey420 May 14, 2003 05:33 PM

Well..today is feeding day for my two BP's...they seem to only want live mice. So I went to my fav. pet store and they were sold out. So I decided to go across town to another store that I have only been to once before. As I walk in there is a strong smell like feces or something. So im walking around and go to the Reptile section. Suddenly I see the worst thing I could possibly see...A cage full of baby balls starving with no water and being infested with mites. I was outraged. I asked for the manager and showed him what was going on..He LAUGHED and said "They are fine..mites are common on these snakes" I wanted to beat the $hit out of him!! I went home and called a local animal activist organization and they were immediately on their way there. I heard back from her a few minutes ago and she said cops were called out there and in the back there were crates of dead animals and the shop was shut down. I feel as i did a great justice in getting this place shut down. I hope the owner gets what he deserves!

I am so happy something was done, just upsets me that there is so many more of these out there! I wish all of them were shut down! I would have done the same, but I have a short temper when it comes to mistreated animals (or kids!) and I would have probably said a few words I shoulden't have and called them and asked to rehab the animals myself (as many as I could handle). I hate to hear stories like this, but at least this one had a semi-good ending. (Would be a GREAT ending if animals weren't already lost and harmed)
My site (will I ever quit updating?)

I like hearing stories about shops that get shut down because of poor conditions however, I have had the unfortunate experience of being in the rescue field and I can tell you that the story is far from over. Mike being that you did a very admiral thing I would go one step further and find out were the confinscated animals are. Then do your part in feeding and taking care of them until they are adopted or else they may suffer the fate of being destroyed. You did a wonderful thing but now you should step up and follow through, Brother and you wll be GOLDEN.................jb
P.S if you other snake keepers in the are please contact them and ask for their help..............
May thay shop owner rought in HELL !!!!!!!!!!!!
This is Tracy's Burgandy Ball is it Hot Now people should learn from Tracy's example about how to keep animals she's good.......

That is so great it just touches my heart hehe yeah I'm glad you did something I remeber back when I wasn't really into snakes I saw this awful disgusting store and what did they have a huge burmese python in a liazard cage do you believe that a small lizard cage the snake could hardly move. I really wish i did something but what made me happy was it was closed down a week later but I really shouldn't wait for these things thank God that only happened once.

Thank God for you!

Nothin upsets me more than mistreated helpless creatures. I'm glad you blew the whistle on that nasty pet store. If I wasn't a broke college kid strapped for cash, I would adopt dozens of snakes that needed some TLC.

I see it all the time: the stupid college kid who is liberal with daddy's credit card and brings home a spur-thigh tortoise and a green anaconda. I have an aquaintence who insists on keeping her 36 inch grey rat snake in a 10-gallon tank. I've offered to GIVE her my 15 gallon with my compliments, but she jsut bitches at me for telling her what to do. To top it off, she keeps him on beach sand, feeds him live adult mice that bite him, and has no cool spot in his cage. GRRRR!!!! I can't get anyone to convince her to keep him on cheap newspaper in a fre tank. Sigh.

We need less ignorance, methinks.

OK, back to my physics homework. Again, great job on the snare, and keep up the good work.

I would take the advice of a previous post and find out where the animals are. I saw a rescue shut down for having 360 cats housed mostly together and in deplorable conditions. The majority of the cats were confiscated and euthanized. Check your local Department of Animal Reg for shelters nearby that house reptiles. This is where they usually go if they are still alive. That sucks
