My new WC Apalachicola Kingsnakes

Sean Aug 15, 2004 11:32 AM

Bought this trio recently from Len Krysko. The first pair were his adult breeders and were both found in March of 1992 in Liberty Co., FL in the Apalachicola Mational Forest.

The male is close to 66 inches in length!

Another photo I took of him back in March when I visited Len at his home.

The female is in the blue right now but I expect to get better pictures of her and the other two after she sheds.

Also another photo I took of her back in March of this year.

The last one is a male that was found in March of 1998 also in Liberty Co., FL in the ANF. This guy looks nearly patternless but you can definitely notice the blotches.

Needless to say, I am one happy camper as I finally have a WC pair of Apalachicola Kings!

Will do Keith. I'll breed that pair next year and hope the third male and one of my CB females will pair up as well. If so it looks like I'll have a couple of clutches of Apalachicola Kings next year. Already I can't wait for next Spring!

Those are beautiful snakes. I was devastated this year to lose my male Apalachicola. I plan on going to a reptile expo in Tucson at the end of this month and hopefully someone there will have a one to two year old male that is affordable. Otherwise my monstrous female will have no mate next year.

She bred this year, 4 x's with the male, then got a cold, shed earlier than expected, never laid any eggs, and when I went to get the male to try again, found him dead in his cage. If I can get a replacement I expect her to have a robust clutch next year... all those mice and rats I fed her to beef her up for a clutch... she's turned into a HUGE monster snake! Eating juvie rats now!

Ah well.

I saw this at the Daytona Expo.

I was glad to see the seller listed it as a Brooksi X Goini. Looks just like many of the typical "goini" out there but you can tell by the head pattern and the scale coloration that it is different. If the seller had labeled it just as a "goini", a buyer probably would never had known it had Brooksi crossed into it. Just another reason why I am basically keeping wild caughts.

Yes, but I don't need to deplete the animals in the wild, nor can I just saunter outside in the Arizona desert and find one. I'll get what I can, if I don't see something that rates high enough, I'll go without.

True, which is why you could possibly buy offspring from someone like me in the future.
