unhappy dragons what am I doing wrong?

cee4 Aug 15, 2004 12:55 PM

This past two weeks they have been just digging and digging at the front entrance and pacing back and forth. I am not sure whats going on. I did run out of pellets and have to wait till next week to buy them but have been supplimenting with crickets for now and greens of course. They arent touching the greens very well now either..Could it be because they've been getting crickets that this all they want now?
I cleaned thier cage and checked the temps 105-110 basking 85-90 elsewhere and probably less under the big basking log(its hollow and has 2 inches of sand to dig in) Also I soaked them which they always seem to hate but they are still restless..Any ideas?

any chnages to the lights? day leghnth?
local weather?

do they see the sun ??

how old are they??

when have they last burminated??

it may be that they are looking to go burminate .... some do it at odd times.

take fecals to a vet and check them out for parasites as that can sometimes lead to odd pronblems.

add a new light and keep them well lit for 14 hours a day.

if your lights are more than 6-9 months old get new lights.

it does happen this time of year.... they seem to get a summer blues for a few weeks sometimes.

You're not giving us much info. to go on here. If the dragon is a female and digging and pacing, it could be she's gravid and trying to find a place to lay her eggs.

I already gave the temps..They are both female and the same age both about 6mnths old, I got them the end of march and they were both around 5inches long. One is missing about two inches of tail, she was like that when I got her so I just add that to her length.
They are digging under rocks etc and stuffing themselves in, at first I thought they were just trying to get out becasue they kept pacing the front of thier cage..
I havent been keeping the light on as long as I havent been real well so Ive been turning it on at 8 or 9 and off at 9 at night, could this be the problem? I originally thought it might be getting to hot in the cage becuase of the way they were digging and not basking like they normally do..I know a guy in a nearby town that raises dragons I might just have to get ahold of him and ask him some questions, he seems pretty knowledgable and owns a reptile specific pet store...

I will try to get a timer for the lights as well..I do intend on getting rid of the sand it leaks out the front of the enclosure(it needs a higher lip)and is making a mess all over my kitchen floor...Thanks

Sorry you haven't been feeling well. YES, you need to give your dragons a consistent day and night. It can't be 12 hours here, 14 hours there, back to 10 hours today because I'm tired, etc. You seriously need to consider getting a timer TODAY and if you can't do something that simple you may want to consider giving your dragons to someone who has the ability to take proper care of them. This isn't an attack it's a suggestion.
