Black silicone???

AR Aug 15, 2004 04:30 PM

I just bought the remaining items to start my vivarium. I only need black silicone to coat the side of tank and the great stuff, like on black jungle how to. Where do I get it, and does it have to be a specific kind? Please reply asap!! I am very anxious to start.

Thank you in advance
Albert

Any home improvment store(Lowes) will have it. Just get the one that is 100 percent silicone with out the mold inhibators. I re-did my luecs tank sort of like the one on black jungle only i used a false bottom. I'm really happy with the way it looks and the frogs seem to really enjoy the backround.

While I usually just use clear Silicone rather than colored, the above advice is valid. Be sure it's 100% for windows, etc., and not the type that is used for caulking bathrooms, which has the mold inhibitor. The brand I have found to be the easiest to work with for this purpose is GE's Silicone I. The texture, ease of squeezing it out, adherence without sagging, and shelf life in a partly used caulk tube just seems to be better than some of the other's I've used. It is usually available at any hardware outlet.

Thanks for the quick responses. I do appreciate it. I went to the Daytona expo, but I was disappointed that I could not find some of the things I needed. I did find alaflor or whatever it's called, some plants, and cork bark. Although I was looking some other kind of wood, like ghost wood. I did not want to order it cause I wanted to pick it out myself. I bought one piece of cork that is still in a tube. Would you guys recommend leaving it hollow for hiding or filling it up with something? I also did not find any pillow moss, that I will have to order. I also bought a blue green auratus, so I now have two. I don't know the sex of them, but hopfully will not have problems in a thirty long with plenty of climbing and hiding places. I can't wait to get started, but might wait a little longer. I am asking a Glazier(?) I know to see if he could customize the tank by putting sliding glass doors on plastic track. But he has lots of work right now because of Hurricane Charlie wich hit us here in Florida pretty hard.
