Hi, I've been posting over in the bearded dragon forum for a long time. Well, now I guess I'll be posting and lurking here too.

I just got a pictus last night, kind of unexpectedly. I'd been wanting to get a gecko and reading up on them, but wasn't expecting it to happen for a few months, at least. But this guy was given to me by a friend who breeds them and wanted to retire him. I've had a lot of different types of reptiles, but I've never had a gecko before. I'm doing my best to get him set up nicely in his new home. I'd like some comments on anything I can do better.

He's in a 20 gallon long with a screen lid. The temperature is about 82-85. He's got lots of hidey spots and a shallow dish of fresh water. He's eaten 5 gut-loaded crickets dusted with Rep-Cal Calcium w/ D3 and Herptivite. I'm using shelf-liner right now on the bottom, my bearded dragons do great on it and I had some on hand. I hear this guy may like to dig, is this right? If so, I'll add some soil or moss. The girl I got him from suggested soil, but all the caresheets I find say moss. I prefer the shelf-liner if it is suitable, but if I need to get him a substrate I just want whatever is safest.

If anyone has any suggestions or tips please let me know. Thanks.

This is Nicodemus.
