Florida King's skin rough in a couple places

Passport Aug 15, 2004 07:24 PM

I'm wondering if there is a skin disease that would cause what I am seeing in this male Floridana. The scales that look bad are on the top of his body. His belly is perfect and nothing looks strange there. There are a couple places where it looks as though they are really scrapped or as though perhaps they were burned, or melted. Today I let him soak in an inch or so of water (he didn't like it at all) to see if perhaps it could be unshed skin. It isn't. He is a yearling and growing fast. I keep him on aspen bedding, checked frequently and fecal or any dampness removed. He eats faithfully and forcefully with a good food response. He doesn't appear ill in any way except for the damaged scales on his skin. I will take him to the Vet but looking for suggestions of what this could be. Thanks.

I've noticed spots that sound similar to what your describing on some of my snakes before. Seems like it goes away after the next shed with no permanent problem. Not sure what causes it or if what I've seen is the same as you, but if the snake is feeding and acting ok, I would watch to see if it improves with the next shed.
