CALCIUM: gluconate, citrate, carbonate and lactate.. which is best??????

clemmysman Aug 15, 2004 08:50 PM

Here we go again.. which is which.. and which is best/worst for breeding/gravid tortoises.. redfoots in particular???

I was told by the health food guy.. (who said he knew as much about bacteria on moon mushrooms as he did about tortoises) claimed carbonate causes gases which could constipate?

Which "ate" is best???

Thanks all.. Terry

If i recall correctly Susuan Donoghue claimed that carbonate and then citrate were the most easilt absorbed in the gut of tortoises.

Hi Terry,

I've been told by numerous sources that calcium carbonate is the best....Has there been studies done to prove this? I don't know......Just going by lots of the same opinion.

Take care!!

Thanks Terry....I'm tryin'. They were doing "their thing" tonight, so we'll see.....Vic Morgan informed that that gestation "he thinks" is roughly one year!! LONG TIME!!, so I'll just have to be patient and see.

Take care,
Barry
