daytona show

geckobill2112 Aug 15, 2004 08:56 PM

Hello all just got back from the daytona show, it was very impressive. The breeders that were there had some beautiful geckos didn't find any snow morphs. I did pick up a female carrot tail and 2 super hypo tangs from Masterpiece Geckos, I have to say they have some amazing leos. I also picked up a hypo tang albino. Well thats all, hope all who went enjoyed as for all the people that got caught in the hurricane hope all turned out well.

That sure was the easiest Daytona show to move around it, it was pretty empty of people. Had fun looking, didn't buy any animals. The main purpose was to get a few bags of frozen mice....and what do you know, nobody had any. Daytona for getting the weakest part of Charley was messed up pretty bad. When I left less than half of Volusia county had power. Only saw 3 working street lights, and probably only that many signs on A1A actually standing. Did you see the Ocean Center metal sign? Twisted and broken to the ground? The two story glass windowed surf shops got totaled, I assumed they were bullet proof glass, but Charley took them all out. The rain sucked driving back to north Florida, but all in all was fun for me. We are still working relief for the central part of the state, so keep your thoughts with those who have lost everything. I don't think the nation really realizes how bad Charley hit Florida. The San Fran earthquake in 89 doesn't compare to the damage to life and property of this storm.

Did Charley have anything on Andrew? I lived in St.Pete when that went through. I live in Kansas now with the tornados. My Mom is still in St.Pete and ddin't lose power, phone or anything in Charley. I hope things clear up quickly for you guys down there.

Charley has not had the media intensity as Andrew did. But I think that this one is going to be more costly. Ft. Myers to Daytona is set back a lot of dollars. So far it is estimated that 40-45% of the state's citrus group was destroyed.

How long were people without power after Andrew? Looks like power will not be fully restored for a week or so longer. Some schools are not set to open up for the fall for two weeks...opening day for them was supposed to be today. Sure have seen lots of out-of-state power pole trucks and drill rigs. Saw a line of them on I-10 (probably 50 vehicles) coming from Michigan. Let's just hope no more deaths are attributed to Charley.
