Gabes new home

benzman1 Aug 15, 2004 09:26 PM

Well I finally went to home lowes and purchased tile for Gabe's tank. I am in the process of getting a 55 gallon to house Gabe and two to three more leos so, the tank is not designed how I want it. The space where you see the missing tiles...well I did not cut the tile at the right width so they will be added this week. I do not have any thing between the tile and the UTH. The tile seems to be warm to touch and Gabe is not running to the cool side. The two thermos you see on the back of the tank are ranging between 78-84 on temps depending on how cool we keep the house.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Tiles look great! You did the same thing I did with my humid hide -- used a lighter to soften the edges of the entrance.

I went for the natural looking habitat, and I have to admit that at times I wish I hadn't. I got a nice fake rock wall background, but crickets manage to squeeze into the cracks around its sides and the top edge of it (gecko cannot get at them). It is no fun removing crickets from their hiding spots or keeping count of how many remain.

If that hide was with my girls all of the moss would be on the outside of the hide in about half an hour. They dig it out like a dog as soon as I add it. I decided to just use a wet paper towel and spray it down every night. Do you moss for the lay hide, but usually she digs all the moss out and just lays on the bottom plastic.

That looks like the same kind of tile that I use in my 40g

Are you using full tiles or did you need to make cuts? I'm missing two tiles because I measured wrong on my cuts. But...that is the corner that Gabe's uses for his pooping and I notices that the paper towels make it easy clean up. How is this topic with all tile?

None of mine are cut. It turned out that the size of the tile was perfect for creating a 6 x 3 grid. It left a small gap on the perimeter but it still looks good. I also went to the trouble of putting rubber non skid feet on the bottom of the tile (the kind you can buy from home depot). It keeps them all in place really well.

Also, since both the geckos in there are good about pooping in the same area, I just put a small section of paper towel over the tile. Granted that tile is easy to clean and looks nicer, theres something about the ease of paper towels that keep me using them in limited areas.

Do all your leo's poop in the same area. I'm wondering because when I get two more for breeding will I have poop all ove rhte place. I like the one area thing.

Did you use some kind of sealant between tiles? I heard that using sealant makes feeding easier so crickets or mealworms do not hide between the tiles... or you can feed them from a dish...

I have my tiles snug with no cracks I feed her crickets and there were no issues.
