Curly Tails - Egg ???s

welshdragon Jun 24, 2003 08:59 AM

Ok, we are pretty new to this lizard hobby, so I am looking for some advice.
We bought this female curly tailed a few weeks ago, she has not been eating much and we had only seen her eat when we would hold her and give her a worm when her mouth opened to bite.
Yesterday morning, I noticed a small white sack in the tank, yesterday evening there were three more of these small, white, roundish objects. They were hard to the touch and I thought they may have been eggs???? I threw a few crickets in and for the first time the curly tailed jumped on them and ate two.
I left them in the tank and left the basking light on as I had read on here about heat needed etc, etc. This morning the three "eggs" were squashed in the tank!

Am I right in thinking they were eggs, and would the curly tailed have done this??
There is also a mountain horned in the tank with the curly tailed.

what kind of curly tailed lizards are they.also if there are crickets in the tank Ive heard they eat lizard eggs.also I would not house the 2 lizards together as they come from different climates.while the mhd comes from a tropical climate the curly tail comes from a savanna climate Ive heard.hope this helps

Is it a Haitian curly tailed? Well usually, they will look for some sort of cave like structure to lay eggs in and they usually try and bury the entrance. My female Haitian usually leaves some white crud in the tank before she lays eggs. I have no idea what it is, if there is a male in the tank then take the eggs out and put them in an incubator, crickets will find and eat the eggs. The eggs usually look deflated after crickets get to them or thats what happened to mine the first time.

This is all from my personal experience with Haitain curly tailed lizards, I've only had them for about 2 and 1/2 months. I hope I helped...
