catching an iguana...

banana Aug 16, 2004 10:21 AM

I know a lady who has an iguana, and it got out of her house. She has a fairly big yard with lots of trees, and she still sometimes sees the iguana hanging around. I want to know if there is any way of luring the iguana to me... whether by a mating call or fishing with rats as bait (my mom saw that in Spain) or what would be the best way of catching it? She also said if I catch it I can have him since she feels she can't take care of him. Any help would be GREAT

rats as bait? iguanas dont eat rats. and their is no mating call that i know of. i would try putting a bowl of mango and other fruits and greens on a table. keep checking to see if you see him out there eating it. do it every day. maybe one day you can sneek up on him. how long did she have him. and is he tame. how long has he been loose?

Ya, I know they don't eat rats, but something about the smell brings the iguana around. i don't know why. She had the iguana for a couple of years and it got out almost a month ago, but she still sees it in the trees in her yard and now she's been hearing this weird sound, like a croak or something, but she is sure it isn't a bird or frog or anything. I'm gonna go to her house today and try to get it. Thanx for the idea... maybe i'll get some bananas and try to lure it in that way.
