rttlrvenom Aug 16, 2004 03:06 PM

Well i basicly finished this cage i just have to add something but then it will be fully operational. Well i dont think it looks that bad since im onyl 15 and had only a sander, jig saw, drill, and a Dremel to use. It is made out of scrap wood that i got from my parents that are builing a ramp off out porch. tell me how you think it looks.

What did you end up sealing it with? I never saw your post below for some reason.

Why front and top doors?

rttlrvenom Aug 16, 2004 04:08 PM

Thanx

i just sealed it with some caulk and then used this flec stone stuff over it to make it hard (its like spray paint but looks like rock)

as for the doors well it started out as a simple cage it was just gonna have a fully mounted piece of glass onthe front but so i cut the door out of the top figring it would just a top loading cage but then i figured this cage is gonna look pretty nice so i followed my motto (if your gonna go go all out) and decided to put the two doors on the from. I figure the two diffrent doors serve a purpose, because i do presentations and i figure the people can see the animal through the front and i can take he animal out from the top without impeding the view also if i put a really fast rat snake in there (like my yellow rat) it would be easier to take it out from he top because they like to bolt from any opening.

thanx again for the compliment

I think you did a great job, never mind having limited tools and experience. Imagine what you could do if you had the Yankee WorkShop?
Thanks for sharing,
Paul

is that a stain or just paint? I think I could do something as easy as that, I am a bit challenged with hammer and nails and my dh is too. what do you use to protect the inside from poop?
Thanks

it is stained with a stain/polyuthrothane (sp?) mix i got it at walmart for 6 dollars. The inside has a piece of vinyl flooring and some angle plastic around the bottom edged that is nailed and caulked. The cage its self was really easy to make and only took me about a week to do. This cage was my first major wood project EVER in my life. Good luck if you decide to make one and dont dought your abilities if you think you can make it chances are you will be able too, just plan how you want to do it and measure twice cut once. if you'd like to see a pick of the inside let me know ill post a pic of it.

good luck and thank

Looks great man. I always have admired my dad because everything he built(including part of our house) he did with very limited tools and resources. Good job on resourcefulness! What is in the bottom of the cage that rides up a couple of inches on the sides?

Jake
