I'm just about to build my own encolsure for my BD because it's alot cheaper but i was wondering, is there any down side to building your own enclosure?

pf no, building your own enclosure is the best! thats what i am doing. its cool because u can completely customize it for optimal climbing and basking spots for your little guy.

The only drawback that comes to mind is the time involved in building and the cost of materials if you where to add anything decritive to the enclosure. I build my own enclosures and I find them to be cheaper and alot more satisfying than anything a person could buy in a store. Generaly a 4x8 sheet of malinine runs $23 a sheet and a single sheet can build an enclosure 4'x2'x2', while a tank that big would cost $200

I built my cage out of an old entertainment center. I got the idea from a couple of people who posted pics of there's. I went to a thift store and purchased a 4'x2'x3' entertainment center for about $45. The rest of the materials (excluding the glass for sliding doors and light bulbs) was pretty cheap. I think I paid $10 for the rest of the wood I used in my setup. I decided to use real glass instead of plexi-glass (it was a lot cheaper) because it's a lot easier to scratch and it befores warped and discolors over time. I paid $130 for two sheets of 3'x 2'1/2". I know I paid more than the average person who builds there own setup. I can honestly say I like my setup better than what I see advertised in store and what's being sold over the internet.

I hope this has been helpful. I wish I had a digital camera so I can snap a few pics for you.
