DENTED SHELL - RES

nekot076 Aug 16, 2004 09:14 PM

I recently was donated a RES with a dented shell. Upon arrival it had a very bad case of softshell. Currently I have got the shell to harden nicely but the turtle still has very large dents in its shell. Does anyone know of potential problems due to the dents? Right now the turtle is about 5-6 inches.

Thanks.

Is it a female?
If the dents are growing with the turtle then maybe they might cause it trouble with egg bearing or laying in the future.

I don't know how "deep" or serious these dents are but i have seen some turtles which suffered traumatic injuries when they were young whose shells grew in strange shapes leading to fears of complications with compromising reproductive capabilities.
