quick question about lost texas rat baby

anj109 Aug 16, 2004 11:05 PM

ok i've been looking every single day now for ever for the last 7 days since my leuy texas rat baby has escaped from its cage. Was wondering if I should be worried it crawled into a air conditioning/heat vent along the wall on the second floor? The drop would be all the way to the basement ceiling where the heating/air system is in my basement. Do you think he would have noticed that it is a large drop and wouldn't have dared to try? and if it did would it have survived? because my basement is big and FULL of boxes and things that it could be anyhere. what are my chances that its just in the same room and I haven't looked hard enough (through EVERYTHING) because there are so many rooms in my house with so much in every room to look for.

also, how long can these guys live without water? i've put water dishes in each room upstairs and some on the first floor and basement. hope this will help her.

thanks everyone,

alex

Would it get in the air ducts....possibly. Would it notice the drop...that depends on the snake. I have 4 ratsnakes now, and since I got two last night i've only handled two in the past, but one is very careful of everywhere he crawls and latches on firmly. However my female licorice stick just doesnt give a damn, lol. She will crawl out on my leg and if i'm not watching her fall right off onto the floor. So I'd say it really depends on your snake, on how careful it is. but sadly, no, i don't think a baby could survive that drop.

try putting something around the water dishes in every room...maybe flour or something....so you can tell if the snake is getting water from that particular dish.

The reason mainstream thought is thought of as a stream is because it's so shallow. -Unknown

Battling ignorance one stupid person at a time.

Current snakes:
1) Female Licorice Stick Black Ratsnake - Lola
2) Neonate Black Ratsnake (Het for Lic Stk's) - Frankie
3 & 4) 2 Bairds Ratsnakes - Rosie and Jose

Take a soda bottle and cut the top off right at the top of the label, now you should have basically a funnel and a "cup". Turn the top around and put it back into the cup. It should look sorta like a minnow trap. Tape or somehow secure the "funnel" into the cup. Make several of these and place them around the room at the base of the wall. Take an appropriate food item and rub it on the floor and the mouth of the trap to leave a scent trail into the trap and place the food item inside. These are most effective when placed on all the walls of the room and with two of them bottom to bottom to cover both directions.

If it's a smaller snake you don't have to modify the mouth of the trap, if it's a larger one cut off the screw top portion and cut several slits into the mouth so that it will expand as the snake slithers in. These are kinda like roach motels. "Once they check in they can't check out" LOL Actually they feel secure in there and once they eat they don't really want to leave. Additionally if you have some old sweat shirt sleeves or tube socks you can use these for covers on your traps. The darkness adds to their sense of security.

Hope this helps.
