Beauty Snake Question???

cnidaria Aug 17, 2004 03:38 AM

Hey all-

Kust picked up a pair of Beauty Snakes from someone I know. Both were a bit "neglected", and so need to put on some weight, but should be fine. I was told they were Taiwan Beauties, but they don't look like true Taiwans to me. The look more like Chinese or Mocquard's Beauties. My question is, how do you tell these apart, since both of the above mentioned snakes look so similar to me? They have the thin bands, not the thick, ladder-like markings I have seen on Taiwans. Also, they are 30" and 36" or so, and have more of the mustard-yellow color, not the bright yellow. I will try to get a pic, but would like to know any advice. Please bear with me until I can get a pic.

thanks,
Brian

Looking at them again today, they are deffinately not Taiwans. So, I assume either Mocquard's of Chinese. Please help me tell the difference.

thanks,
Brian

Brian, the snake in the photo is O. t. taeniura, I'm sure, Chinese stripe-tailed rat. I don't know about yours, but if it has the identical pattern, it probably is the same ssps. Good luck getting them back on track.

Terry-

Thanks for the help. Actually, I just found out my digi cam works, and shot a few quick pics. How do I add them to the post? If not, I can email them to you. They are of my actual snakes, so hopefully you can ID them. Please shoot me your email addy!

thanks,
Brian

Brian, thanks for the pics. To post a picture here, put a copy of the URL, from your web site, in the box below labeled, Image URL, or you can do it by wrapping your photo URL in the text inside the html code for photos.
