Can anyone identify this baby? I originally thought it was a painted but the shell doesn't look right.
It is about 2" long and was found in a muddy pond in NJ.

Looks like a stinkpot to me, Sternotherus odoratus

I agree, it is either a stinkpot, common musk turtle. Or a mud turtle. Depends on where you live. Mud and Musk turtles are definately one of my favorites, they can be great 'pets'.
