New crested

supermogwai Aug 17, 2004 12:43 PM

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just wanted to show off my new juvenile crested. When I purchased her at the store, I watched her eat two medium sized crickets. I feed my leopards mealworms normally, but the crested doesn't seem to show much interest in meal worms--I've kept count, and barring escapes from the bowl, she seems to be furtively eating them now and then, but never when i'm around. (I've only had her a few days, not even a week). From what I'm reading, however, this is fairly normal--small apetitites (relative to other similarly sized geckoes), and a preference for crickets. That's not too much of a problem though, as I can easily get ahold of crickets. Any thoughts, and was curious as to what one would call her color variation? (At the store she was cream yellowy--but in her new home she tends to be a light orangeish color.)
thanks,

PS> that photo was snapped, immediately after (I think) she might've eaten one. But again, in the last three days that was the only time!

mine will eat ANYTHING that's an insect

he's a little pickt with his fruit but massive piglet when it comes to mealies or crix, doesn't seem to matter. I can lure him out of his cage with a mealie in my hand

She took crickets this evening, no problems whatsoever. She only ate 3 though. Anyone know how much is average? And what color variety one would call her?

Yeah, although I wouldn't recommend any real pets that multiply with water.

Here's a link for you (below). Nice looking Crested, by the way.

Thank you,
I've often read mealworms were low nutritionally--but I've raised two very healthy leopard geckos on primarily mealworms (with supplementation and a certain degree of variety), and they are in great shape. I realize cresteds may be different however, and in fact, mine does seem to definitely prefer crickets anyway, so that's what I'll be using as the base diet.
