Scheffelera is fine but the varigrated scheffelera like you are talking about tends to lose a lot of leaves with a big Cham crawling around in it. Go with the Scheffelera Amate or umbrella plant. This one has much larger broader leaves and stalks that can stand to a larger Cham's powerful grip. You can also drip water into it everyday without causing root rot.
When you get your plant, shower it down thoroughly before using it and then let it sit for two weeks before you let your Cham on it. This effectively end the half life of most pesticides.
